Three Month Pictures

A few weeks ago, we took Pax to JC Penney's to get his 3 month pictures taken.  We had his newborn pictures taken there too and they turned out really cute so we went back.  These were so much better.  He was asleep for his newborn pictures so it was mostly just arranging him in different poses.  This time he was awake and happy.  Here are the pictures:

And just in case that wasn't enough pictures of sweet little Paxton, Jared got a new camera and has been taking some really neat pictures of Paxton.  You can see some of them here.  He took some photography classes in college so he knows a lot about editing to make them look cool.  I love that this is his new/re-acquired hobby.

FOUR MONTHS!!

Well Paxton is four months old today!  I can't believe how fast this is going!  I am including some of the milestones from What to Expect When You're Expecting to see how Paxton measures up.
According to the book, "By four months your baby should be able to:

  • on stomach, lift head up to 90 degrees
CHECK!
  • laugh out loud
CHECK!
  •  follow an object...
CHECK!
...Will probably be able to:
  • hold head steady when upright
CHECK!
  •  on stomach, raise chest supported by arms
CHECK!
  •  grasp a rattle held to backs or tips of fingers
CHECK!
  •  reach for an object...CHECK! (but impossible to get a picture of)
  • squeal in delight
CHECK!
(terrible picture but squealing requires lots of movement)

...may possibly be able to:

  • keep head level with body when pulled to sitting
CHECK!
  •  roll over (one way)"

We are so proud of Paxton!  He's hitting his milestones right on schedule, and it's fun to see how he advances every month.  He is still loving to cuddle (he can go to sleep without being rocked but he sometimes fusses a little...he likes to be rocked), he still loves baths and watching TV or lights.  He has started noticing Scarlett and he likes watching her run around.  Granny V got him a new swing that he loves.  He is starting to get bored more easily and sometimes gets fussy if he's in his car seat for too long.  He definitely recognizes his mommy and daddy and looks for us when someone else is holding him.  He also always has a huge smile for Jared when he comes home from work...even if he's sleepy or hungry.  He's starting to wake up earlier...instead of waking up at 9:00 he gets up around 6:30.  I think he's getting ready for rice cereal to be full through the night.  He still sleeps 8-9 hours a night.  He is still in 3 month clothes but most are getting pretty tight.  3-6 month and 6 month clothes fit better and he has to wear 6 month pajamas because of his length.  I think he has dropped from the 90-95th percentile that he has been in, but we'll find out for sure next week when we get his shots.

Here are the pictures from his 4 month teddy bear shoot:

(after I uploaded these to facebook I realized he was wearing the same outfit he wore for his 3 month pictures)

Vitamin D

While I was loading up the groceries at Wal-Mart yesterday, I noticed that our blanket from the 4th of July fireworks was still in the back (don't judge...).  Today, I decided that Paxton and I needed a little vitamin D...well just Paxton really...so we took the blanket and headed outside.

We have a pretty good-sized backyard with some amazing trees so Paxton and I picked a spot in the shade and started playing.

This is his "outside face"...you won't see him in the sun or shade without it...no matter how cloudy it is

It was hot...so I took his onesie off...and Scarlett came over to play.

A boy and his dog

Naturally he got some thumb sucking in

And then at the end he rolled over all by himself!
I had never actually seen him roll over...I've just seen the end product, so this was pretty neat.  I was surprised at how fast he did it!  When I leave him on his tummy and come back to find him on his back, I always picture the roll happening in stages...nope...it happens all at once!  I can't believe how fast he is growing up!

Bath Time

So I have decided that bath time is one of my favorite parts of the day.  How can it not be when he loves it so much?  Look at that smile!

And then when it's over, he smells so good and he's so cuddly in his pajamas!

On the Move

Paxton has gotten so fun lately.  He is really starting to notice his toys and try to play with them.  He thinks toys with squeakers are the funniest things ever.  This is making tummy time so much more fun for both of us:

He has also started moving.  I don't think it's crawling by any means...and I really have no idea how he does it...for example, I put him in his crib yesterday while I was taking the trash out:

This is where he was when I came back eight minutes later:

Somehow he had gotten from the bottom of the crib all the way to the top...and rolled over...I couldn't believe how far he moved, especially in eight minutes!

He was so proud of himself when I went in to look at him:

He also is putting everything in his mouth:

 He's getting so big!

On Sunday, Paxton started throwing up.  I had just switched him to a different kind of formula and thought it probably had something to do with that...so I switched him back.  It didn't work.  He threw up a few more times that day and just felt miserable.  Monday morning he woke up crying and threw up two more times.  I called the doctor.  They got us in that morning at 11:30 and Dr. Campbell said that it was a summer virus that was going around.  Paxton was the third one he had seen that morning.  Paxton had a 99.4 degree fever which wasn't bad.  Dr. Campbell said we needed to take him off formula and only feed him Pedialyte for 24 hours.  We also had to watch him closely for any signs of dehydration.  By that night, he was having diarrhea but he wasn't throwing up anymore.  He still didn't feel good.  Yesterday, he was pretty much back to normal.  I thought by keeping him out of day care we would be able to avoid a lot of these viruses...but I guess it's pretty hard to do.  We love having a pediatrician that will squeeze us in for things like that and help us fix Paxton.
