It's almost time, let the battle begin

The time us upon us.  The appointment for inducement has be set.  Now we are planning for how we can combat for what he has in store for us.

Looks innocent and cute, right?  Don't believe for one second that there is not a logical though process that's going on in that head to determine how he will get us in the palm of his hand.

He has a couple of ways of accomplishing this.  First, he goes to the bathroom a lot.  He uses this tactic to show us that we have to change him and clean him, and it's not the other way around.  Society tells parents that we have to change him. So, the first win goes to him.

Next, he gets up every few hours and demands to eat.  Again, nothing we can do because we have to feed him.  Chalk up another point for the baby.  Before we get a chance to combat his evil ways, he has two points on us.

There's the crying too.  They even have different cries for different things they want.  There's the pick-me-up cry.

The "feed me"cry

The "change me so I can show you who the boss is" cry.

And then there's the "When I grow up and get married, I'm living alone.  You hear that? I'm living alone, I'm living alone!" cry.

Regardless of who wins, we are very excited to have him become a part of our family.  We look forward to being parents, and it's amazing how much you love someone before you even meet him.

A Touch of Gray and Black

Aside from a few last minute purchases, we have Paxton's nursery ready for him to come home.  We were really happy with the way it all came together.  We knew we wanted a color palette that didn't include blue...just because it's so common in little boy rooms...we wanted something a little different but definitely not girly.  I narrowed it down to black and red or gray and yellow, and Jared made the final decision.

Here are some pictures of his brand new room:
Here is his crib.  The one we had picked out at Target was unavailable until March 31st and he's gonna be here by then...so Jared's mom found us this one from JC Penney's that was pretty similar and got it for us.  It's a convertible crib so it will also be his toddler bed and then his big boy bed.  My mom made the bedding from fabric we picked out together.  The fabric was one of our first nursery purchases and was the inspiration for the other shades of colors we used.  We are really glad to have homemade bedding.  It turned out even better than we had pictured and we just think it's so special that he has bedding that his grandma made.

Here is his changing table/dresser.  This was a dresser that we had and were able to re-do for the nursery.  Jared spent quite a bit of time getting it all sanded and then we painted and put on some new hardware.  I think it's going to be really convenient to change him right there with all his clothes.  It's also nice to not have a completely separate changing table which would just take up more space.
Aunt Teighynne made the sweet letters above the dresser and those turned out really cute.  The diaper hanger is the same fabric as the bedding and was made by my mom.

Here are all of Paxton's books, toys and shoes.  Teighynne took the pictures above the shelf, they are all black, white and yellow and are pictures of the playgrounds of the elementary schools that Jared and I went to.  It was a super-cute idea and turned out really neat and looks great in the room.

Here is our rocker.  We were really excited to find one in black and yellow...not an easy combination.  We are still wanting to get a little table to put next to it with a lamp.  The pictures above the chair are from Tabatha, she made them for us for Paxton's shower.  My mom made the curtains with the same fabric from the bedding.  We were glad they weren't girly.  You can also see his little duck robe hanging on his bathroom doorknob.  I can hardly wait to give him a bath and put him in his duck robe.

This is Paxton's very own little boy bathroom.  We had a lot of blue stuff since he's a boy and we really wanted to use it all.  The little guy is lucky enough to have his very own bathroom, so we used it all there.  It will be really nice to have a bathroom just for his stuff so we can keep it baby clean and also keep all his stuff together and not have to tote it around every time he needs a bath.

We were really lucky to have so much input from our friends and family.  It really made the room special.  The homemade touches are amazing.  I think we're ready to bring him home which is good because my doctor is saying that I will most likely have him sometime next week (which is great because that's when everyone requested that we have him since it's during spring break).

Some Updates

Well....I guess we haven't been great at updating this blog weekly as planned....apparently it's the business of life: trying to get ready for a baby, work full-time, and maintain relationships with friends and family.

We are pretty much finished with the nursery.  There is definitely more we could do but if he was born tomorrow we would be fine bringing him home.  Hopefully at some point I will find the energy to take some pictures and post them.

At my last doctor's appointment, my doctor put my on bed rest due to some complications I was having.  I am not able to work anymore...which is fine with me.  However, I'm also not allowed to do anything except lie on the couch.  I have definitely enjoyed the relaxation but I wish I could be up.  I would love to be able to get the house clean and get Paxton's last few baby items put away....but I can't.  I have another doctor's appointment on Thursday so hopefully she will clear me for some light housework.

I can't believe I only have 11 days left until my due date!  That is crazy!  I have been having some light contractions and Paxton has fully dropped and is engaged, and things are progressing.  It's so crazy what my body is doing without me even knowing.

We are getting really excited for Paxton to be here!  I think we are finally ready...and as emotionally prepared as we're gonna get.  I can't wait to see his little face and hands and feet and to dress him in his clothes.  I want to know what his hair looks like!  I really can't believe what an easy pregnancy this has been and how comfortable I have been the whole time.  I am definitely getting a little uncomfortable now, but not miserable.  Maybe we'll do this again someday.
